In a safe and supportive environment,  young women develope a greater sense of understanding, ownership, and pride in the American Muslim identity. Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was  in Springfield, Massachuestts to inaugurate “The Desmond Tutu Lecture Series on Public Health Awareness.” He received an honorary doctorate degree from American International College on April 20th and spoke to over 1000 students, faculty and guests.

5sundayJoin us for suhbat with the Shaykh.  This series of 5 Sunday Talks addresses the historical and practical importance of a guide on the Sufic Path. Last Sunday in this series- April 26th. “Dhaahir and Baatin“  Can’t attend in person? Watch Webcast here. You are invited to the Islamic Study Center, 108 10th ST.  NW, Charlottesville, VA.   Begins at 10:30 to 6:00.

Shaykh Ahmed Abdur Rashid, in the Naqshbandi tradition;  Shaykh Nooruddeen Durkee, in the Shadhdhuli tradition.  Each session will include a na’at singer or group and a Qur’an reader. Each speaker will have at least an hour to delve into his subject, with time for questions afterwards. Lunch and dinner will be served; dhuhr, ‘asr and maghrib will be prayed in jam’at. There is no charge for the program.

April 26th – Guest Speaker: Mi’raj Ahmad Riccio embraced Islam in 2003. Since that time he has studied Hanafi fiqh, the aqida of Ahl us-Sunnah and Arabic language with Maulana Ghufran Ali Siddiqui (khalifa of Mufti-e-Azam Hind Maulana Mustapha Ridha Khan), Maulana Hafiz Ghulam Yasin Rizvi, and Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Asif Ali Reza. For four years he taught fiqh, aqida, history and sirah to children and young adults at the Muhaddith-e-Azam Academy in Jersey City, New Jersey. He has also served as khatib of the Muslim Community Center of Union County in Elizabeth, NJ and the NAIF Center in Herndon, VA.
